April 25, 2025:
Reliance Industries might see its profits fall by about 5% for the January–March 2025 quarter. Experts say this is mostly because the oil-to-chemicals (O2C) business is not doing well. But there’s some good news — its Jio and retail businesses are growing.
Six different groups of experts believe that while Reliance’s total income from business (revenue) may go up by 4%, the overall profit could still go down. The company had seen profit growth in the last quarter, but before that, profits had dropped three times in a row.
Reliance’s overall earnings before costs (EBITDA) are expected to go up a little — between 1% and 3%. This is because of more money coming in from Jio due to price hikes and better performance in its stores.
Retail and Jio Business Doing Well
The retail part of the company — which includes stores and malls — is expected to earn 11% more than it did last year. That’s because the stores are doing better and earning more money per sale.
Reliance Jio, the telecom part of the company, is also growing. It’s expected to earn 16% more than last year because more people are using its services and prices have gone up. Subscriber numbers also grew by 1%.
Oil Business Facing Problems
The oil part of the company, called O2C, is not doing as well. Profits from this segment may fall by nearly 14% compared to last year. Prices for oil products have dropped, and that’s affecting earnings.
Some experts also say the company may have to pay more for interest and equipment, which could further lower the final profit number.
What Different Experts Say-
ICICI Securities: Jio earnings might rise 16%, but oil business profits could drop 13.9%.
YES Securities: Retail earnings will go up 7.4% but fall slightly from last quarter. Jio’s average income per user might grow to ₹208.
Nuvama: Jio and retail are doing well, but oil and gas earnings are falling.
Kotak Equities: Jio earnings may rise 3%, retail 10%, but oil-related income might drop 11%.
Even with some weak spots, Reliance’s businesses like Jio and retail are helping the company stay strong overall.
